Figure Skating’s Finest: Alexandra Trusova’s Jaw-Dropping “Unstoppable” Routine
Introducing Alexandra “Sasha” Trusova, a Russian figure skater who secured a silver medal at the 2022 Olympics. A video showcasing her performance at the Skate Canada figure skating event has gone viral on YouTube, accumulating 12 million views annually for the past three years.
Alexandra is an exceptionally skilled skater, recognized for leading the technical revolution in women’s figure skating. Previously, quadruple jumps were exclusively performed by male skaters. Traditionally, female skaters have been behind their male counterparts in executing jumps.
The reason wasn’t that women were unable to perform the jumps, but rather because it was deemed “inappropriate”. American skater Theresa Weld was criticized for incorporating a single salchow jump into her routine. Interestingly, the reprimand wasn’t based on technical or safety concerns. The problem arose when, during the jump, her skirt lifted above her knees, making it seem too risquĂ©. However, times have significantly evolved since then, and jumps are now a fundamental element of any figure skating program.
Alexandra’s mastery of these jumps has likely contributed to her series of medals in recent years. She has earned four bronze medals, two silver medals, and three gold medals, including at the World Junior Championships. Now at eighteen, it appears inevitable that she will soon secure adult titles.
Alexandra Vyacheslavovna Trusova was born on June 23, 2004, in Ryazan, Russia. As the oldest of her parents’ three children, she has two brothers named Egor and Ivan. Alexandra started her training at the age of four in her hometown. She advanced rapidly and moved to Moscow in 2015 to further her training.
Only two years later, she competed in the Russian Junior Championships, finishing in fourth place. A few months subsequently, at the Junior Grand Prix final, she achieved 73.25 points, setting a new junior women’s world record for the short program. Since then, Alexandra has maintained her excellence, winning medals and advancing the limits of women’s figure skating.
To witness firsthand the abilities of this talented young skater, watch her performance at Skate Canada in 2019. At the start of the video, Alexandra is seen waiting backstage. Her attire exudes a Cruella DeVil style, featuring all black and white, including her hair.
She glides gracefully onto the ice and moves towards the judges’ panel. Then, in a charming gesture, she rests her head on the edge as though she is weary. When the music begins, she propels herself onto the ice and begins to skate. Her performance is elegant and appears completely flawless, with the jumps providing an added layer of excitement.
