When Michael Bublé Performs a Moving Duet with a Sixth-Grade Teacher

Not many people can claim to have met one of their idols. Some of us get that golden ticket backstage, or manage to navigate through the crowd for a handshake and a photo; these are unforgettable moments for fans. However, one lucky fan did what countless others dream of: share a stage with Michael Bublé in front of a packed audience.

This is exactly what sixth-grade teacher Mrs. Diana Fairbanks experienced during Michael Bublé’s performance at Oakland’s Oracle Arena in 2019. In this heartwarming moment, Fairbanks appears calm and unbothered by the crowds around her as Bublé agrees to her request for a duet. The two then proceed to sing Disney’s “A Whole New World” together in a beautiful melodic duet.

At first, Bublé appears to think that Fairbanks – who is holding up a sign – is simply trying to catch his attention and express her admiration (as most fans would likely do if they were in such close proximity to Bublé).

However, he is taken aback when he discovers the other side of the sign, which asks for an on-stage duet with the iconic Canadian singer. Little did the audience know, they were about to witness a truly breathtaking moment.

The crowd erupted in applause as Bublé accepted her offer, and Fairbanks showcased her angelic voice right from the start. Despite his legendary status, Bublé shows us that, at his core, he’s just like everyone else, as he stumbles over his words during the duet. However, this doesn’t stop him from providing superb harmonic support to Fairbanks, who managed to match Bublé’s pitch by the end of the song. They even share a moment, gazing into each other’s eyes for reassurance as they find the right pitch together.

Michael Bublé is recognized globally as a vocal icon. His extensive collection of original songs is impressive enough on its own, but one of the key elements of Bublé’s charm is his ability to breathe new life into forgotten songs from the past, giving them his own unique spin. One of his most popular covers is Nina Simone’s classic “Feeling Good,” which 15-year-old fan Sam Hollyman had the chance to perform with Bublé during his concert at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena.

Fan interactions are some of the most memorable and unexpected moments we can experience at music shows. Collaborations with guest artists are a pleasant surprise, but there is something especially exhilarating about a fan getting the opportunity to perform alongside one of their favorite musicians.

A particularly magical moment occurred when Yayo Sanchez, sporting makeup inspired by Kiss’ Gene Simmons, was invited on stage by Dave Grohl during a Foo Fighters concert to play guitar. Not only did the young Sanchez flawlessly perform their classic hit “Monkey Wrench,” but after an incredible performance, Grohl was left speechless and began bowing to the young guitarist. It’s hard to imagine receiving higher praise.
