A Photo of a Stray Dog Snuggling with a Stuffed Toy Rapidly Gained Virality
A touching photo of a homeless dog clinging to a neglected bear captured the hearts of the country but also left animal lovers divided over the fate of the dog.
A stray dog on a nap was videotaped on the street with his head resting on a forgotten teddy bear.
Yvette holzbach, the photographer, wrote: “Here A stray dog gets solace in a worn and abandoned toy. How many of the dogs that we see are also tossed out on the street after they have fulfilled their purpose? ”
The photo went viral as people were deeply saddened by this sad photo and wanted to know what happened to the dog.
But although many people showed great sympathy, others wondered why Yvette did not save the dog, instead of just taking a picture and walking away.
Her observation shows exactly how many homeless dogs there are on this site and the severity of the situation nationwide.
Finding forever homes
Yvette works for an organization called Forgotten Dogs of Ward 5, and spends her time rescuing homeless dogs in one of the most destitute departments in Houston, Texas.
She and her colleagues patrol the territory, take photos of abandoned dogs in order to identify the owners, sterilize or neutralize them, medical care if necessary, and most importantly find some of them foster or forever homes.
But the huge amount of homeless dogs on the street is too much for Yvette and her colleagues to deal with and it’s for this reason that she posted the following reaction on Facebook to all those who condemned her.
“In one feeding route, we may feed up to 50 stray dogs. Of these 50 dogs we are lucky if we were able to rescue one because the sad reality is, there are not enough nurseries to put these dogs in,” she reported on the Forgotten Dogs of Ward 5 website.
A small group of volunteers
“It’s the hardest thing in the world for us to leave dogs like him behind, so please don’t criticize us. We are a small group of volunteers who are simply trying to do the best we can with what we have.”
After the photo was posted the dog, named Teddy, was identified as one of several dogs that local homeowner Mr Calvin was feeding.
The 87-year-old had rescued many dogs from the streets over the years, and at one time he had as many as 20 in his backyard, according to Yvette.
“I hope that by uploading awareness to the image I have evoked the suffering of a street dog. We are fighting an uphill battle and we can only hope that a day will come when no dog will have to struggle to live on the street.”
Yvette published an update to this tale last year with Sad information that the animal hero Mr. Calvin died in 2018, but his generosity and care towards these poor dogs will never be forgotten because of Yvette and her crew.
